Even by the standards of the Shinigami, Takeshi Obata’s created the Shinigami Calikarcha stands out for his bizarre appearance, with his eight eyeballs arranged in two rows on either side of his skull.
He also sports short tusks like those of a mammoth and what can be described as a beak. His shoulder pads, if not comprised of actual bones, are at least covered in what seems like fur. His arms are tattooed with what looks like Indian symbols, hence he may be an Indian in the Human World.
Calikarcha favors blueberries but is sensitive to light. In the first episode, Calikarcha is shown using the Death Note. Takeshi Obata has stated that he was inspired by Balinese bird masks when creating the look of Calikarcha.
