The anime online series Death Note is not only exceptionally well-written but also the most well-known anime series. Everyone in Death Note possesses a high level of intelligence.
In the Death Note series, L Lawliet was by far the reader’s favourite and most intelligent character. However, each anime web series has characters that fans love and characters that fans despise.
Ranking The Most Hated Character in Death Note
1. Mello
He was aggressive, envious, self-absorbed, and willing to go to any lengths to achieve his goals. As a result of all this, Mello has garnered a great deal of animosity and has consistently been considered one of the worst characters in the show.
Most Death Note devotees have an intense animosity toward Mello, one of the show’s many characters. This anger is a result of his terrible character and stupid choices.
Mello’s inferiority complex was severe. This was because he felt inferior to Near, who was considered the smartest member of Wammy’s family.
This motivated him to seek justice for Kira, as doing so would validate his actions. Because of this, he kidnapped Sayu Yagami (Light’s sister), murdered their father Soichiro, and threatened the U.S. government with the Death Note in order to locate Kira .
2. Rem
In Death Note, Misa Amane’s shinigami was named Rem. Unlike Ryuk, who radiated charisma and black humour, Rem came off as bland and overprotective.
It is expected of every Shinigami to maintain objectivity. But Rem developed feelings for Misa that ultimately led him astray. This resulted in Light utilising her in a number of perverse ways, ultimately leading to her own demise.
Rem, who lacked a strong sense of self-determination, was thus never able to win over her audience. She claimed to have looked down on all people, yet her excessive fondness for Misa ran counter to her stated philosophy.
3. Kiyomi Takada
Kiyomi Takada in Death Note is regrettably another example of how poorly written female characters can be in shonen anime. She was supposed to be a pivotal player in the tale, yet she failed to even mildly intrigue the audience.
An ex-girlfriend of Kira’s boyfriend Light Yagami, Kiyomi was a Kira fan. Her attractiveness and intelligence made her the perfect candidate for the post of Kira’s spokesman.
Despite her undeniable attractiveness, the difficulty lies in the fact that her brains were rarely put on exhibit or recognised. She didn’t have many scenes, therefore audiences never got to evaluate her.
Therefore, being a Kira fan was the only thing that kept her in the public eye. However, her growth was so sloppy that when she finally appeared in Death Note, most viewers were baffled and could hardly place her.
4. Matt
When a character is completely without any sort of redeemable qualities, it can make them instantly unlikable. That’s how it was with Matt, too.
Just for amusement, he cruelly pokes fun at other people.
Worse yet, he refuses to learn from his errors and thus continues to get in hot water with the mafia due to his loose lips.
5. Higuchi
You could compare Higuchi to a shinigami, but he’s even more terrifying. Even though he is human, he could care less if his own kind survives or not.
He puts all of his focus on making money and would even go on a murderous rant if he knew he would get rich from it.
In addition to being emotionless, he lacks any redeeming qualities whatsoever and is a genius to boot.
6. L
Many Death Note readers dislike L because of his unkempt appearance and personality. What’s more, he claims to be on the moral high ground when it comes to Kira and his killings, despite engaging in a number of morally dubious behaviours.
In his pursuit of knowledge about Light, he was willing to lie, steal Misa’s phone and invade her privacy, break into her home, abduct her, and torture her.
7. Light Yagami
The fact that Kira rarely takes responsibility for his crimes and is rarely punished despite being responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people is the main source of discontent among his fanbase. He is revealed to be a megalomaniac who swiftly develops a God complex.
His character is undeniably fascinating and multifaceted, but many viewers lost interest when he started talking about himself in the third person (as he does with Kira).
8. Misa Amane
Misa, without a question, is the most despised individual in the Death Note universe. She constantly complains, is very dependent on Light, and lacks maturity. She has no purpose in the story other than to be controlled by Light whenever he sees fit, and she has no discernible personality or ideals outside of her obsession with him.
Her worst trait is, of course, that she is so oblivious to Light’s psychopathic nature that she continues to immerse herself in their unhealthy relationship. All of this, like with Kiyomi, is a result of the stereotypically negative portrayal of women in Shonen.
9. Ryuk
Death gods, or shinigami, are expected to be impartial observers of human affairs while going about their business unobtrusively. On the other hand, Ryuk takes great pleasure in anarchy, shows little regard for human life, and grants a teenage lad the power of life and death.
His vicious streak becomes more and more apparent as the show goes on.
10. Hitoshi Demegawa
They are several reasons why Demegawa is also one of the most hated characters, even Kira said this himself in various episodes, of how Demegawa is just profiting and faking his close relationships with Kira.
Demegawa jokes that the Second Kira, Misa Amane, will send blackmail material to Sakura TV, and that they would receive massive ratings as a result.
Demegawa, despite the lives of people being on the line, does not give the videos to Soichiro Yagami when he arrives at the TV station demanding their release. He only gives them up because Soichiro points a gun at him and threatens to kill him.
