Death Note Fillers Guide List

Death Note Filler List Guide
Death Note Filler List Guide

To help you watch Death Note without filler, I provide a list of chapters to skip or avoid. This way, you won’t have to waste time on the filler that doesn’t advance the story or risk becoming bored.

If that weren’t enough, you can pick up right where the anime left off by reading the manga chapter that this page was based on.

Detailed Information

Whether you think they’re necessary to the story’s progression or the characters’ growth, or if you think they’re just filler since the manga is behind schedule, you can’t deny that they’re present. Despite the fact that they may irritate the anime’s audience, they’ll nevertheless play a significant role in the show.

Filler Episodes

Death Note has no filler episodes, so it’s easy to skip them if you don’t want to.

There are just a few of filler episodes in the entire run, but they’re evenly distributed between manga canon and filler, so it’s still worth watching. The episodes that fit this description are listed below.

The first episode – Rebirth

Several aspects of the anime deviate from the manga; for instance, Light engages in a lengthy “killing a bunch of criminals in a row” montage, which does not appear in the original source material. Light puts the notebook through its paces for the first time at a different time than in the canon, but otherwise the episode sticks fairly close to the original story.

The 25th Episode – Silence Major Turn

This was the pivotal chapter, as L’s death put an end to the epic conflict between Light and L. Besides deviating slightly from the comic by having L wash Light’s feet (oh, lovely, delicious symbolism), this episode also alters the manga’s depiction of L’s death. L’s final thoughts are revealed in the manga, although he passes away peacefully in the anime. Just to reiterate, I don’t think this is filler.

The 26th Episode – Renewal

Since it’s a summary of everything that’s transpired up until L’s death, I consider this episode to be filler. Don’t believe you can skip this episode because it takes place five years in the future and introduces L’s heirs, Mell and Near.

The 37th Final Episode – New World

The ending of the episode is changed from the manga, but the consequence is the same (Light is revealed to be Kira and dies) and so is Ryuk’s act of writing his name in the notebook. In the anime, Light escapes from the police and runs for his life, only to have Ryuk write his name in the notebook. Even though he knows Light is watching, Ryuk still signs his name in the comic. Light was under the impression that Ryuk would assist him in eluding the authorities, thus this news comes as a surprise to him.

How Much Filler Rate is in Death Note?

Extremely few episodes in the Death Note series feel like filler.

In the 37 episodes that make up the series, only 4 include a mix of canonical and noncanonical content, so the filler percentage is effectively zero.
